shut up. shut up. shut up.

Everyone needs to shut their collective traps. Stop. Everyone... and look. Closely. This fight in the middle east is growing. What are the circumstances pertaining directly to this? Eight solders were killed and two captured by one side. The other side rises up and attacks the first side, except in doing so, they end up destroying public lands, innocent lives and disrupt the government of a sovereign country of what is effectually a third side. The first side is retaliating against what it calls an aggressor, despite its inital incursion. The second side is using every ounce of its impressive firepower to squash what amounts to a very small percentage of the land they are attacking.

Its really not all that confusing when we put names on each of the sides.

Over here, we see what we are told to see. Hezbollah is the terrorist, Israel is the righteous victim, Lebanon is just another Muslim country whose pleas for help don't amount to anything. How quick we are to find ties to the evil-doers; they're the ones with the mustaches, olive skin and baggy clothing. How easily we ignore the evil under our noses. It couldn't be poor little Israel, could it?

We've been conditioned to be scared to criticize Israel because of attrocities commited in the past upon the Jewish people. We're scared to criticize Israel because if we do, inevitably we will be labeled "anti-semetic," "nazi," or some other title associated with a racist group.

The Israeli people are no more inherently evil than Americans. But writing that sentence made this writer give pause. Evil is subjective, isn't it? Is evil a universal concept or is it defined by the beholder? The Israeli soldiers are likely considered saviours and heros for defending the country. How different do you think the Palestinian militants appear to their family after a rash of air raids and bulldozers strafe their neighborhoods? But this is a digression.

We are now hearing the talking heads say again and again and again, this is World War 3. World War 3. World War 3. Sadly, this is a distinct possibility. The United States is doing nothing but ushering it in. Appearance and spin might make you think otherwise though.

The United States, after two weeks of pussyfooting around, is now calling for a cease fire. A cease fire which states that Hezbollah must return the two captured soldiers. This is a condition that everyone knew would not be accepted. Asking for a cease fire with this stipulation is like not asking for a cease fire.

Asking for cease fire under these pretenses is the same as condoning more death and destruction.
